BMW have been chosen to be the official automotive partners to the London 2012 Olympics. Due to the success of BMWs efficiency dynamics programme and its ability to reduce CO2 emissions. The London committee of the Olympic and Paralympics games (LOOG) has decided to choose BMW as its sustainability partner. This means that BMW will provide official fleet vehicles to the Games. It will produce around 4000 cars and motorbikes for the purpose of transporting athletes and officials around the Games.
Former British Olympic athlete and chairman of the LOCOG Sebastian Coe said “The size of BMW as a global brand, coupled with its presence and investment in the UK, meant that it was a natural fit.”. He continued “operationally an automotive deal is vital for organising committee. So I am thrilled BMW is on board. They share our vision to stage sustainable games in 2012”.
BMW has beat stiff completion to get the deal. The LOCOG committee set tough emission targets for the games. They suggested a maximum average of 120g CO2/KM. To which BMW surpassed. BMW will provide a range of vehicles including hybrid cars, motorcycles, bikes and conventional cars.
BMW are happy to be part of the games. Ian Robertson, member of the board of directors said: “Sportiness is the core of our identity and the core of the BMW brand. As the world’s most sustainable car manufacturer, we promote and support the idea of sustainable Games.
Most of the fleet will be based in London, however some will be in places such as the famous Old Trafford stadium, home to Manchester United.

Many car breakers have known this for some time, it is cheaper to buy a BMW from the States than here in the UK. The reason we are using breaker yards as an example is because of the huge amount of BMW American Imports that come to the UK, and back to countries throughout Europe as salvage for the parts, which have a greater demand that supply over here. In the rest of Europe it is a different story with these cars being left hand drive and suitable for the roads on the continent, the only stumbling pint is making sure these vehicles are safe to drive on the road. There is another type of BMW American Imports and that suits the classic car market. the warmer climate across in many States of the USA. mean older cars last longer and can be more original. There are some in the UK, who do not care about what side the steering wheel is on.
Buying BMW American Imports is not as difficult as you may think, but the costs can add up for VAT, delivery and shipping, so a calculator and realistic budget is something of a necessity. It is worth all the costs for the breaker yards selling certain engines for £2000 a piece, it is worth the cost to European buyers who can buy a 5 series cheaper from the States than at home often with more accessories and it is worth it to certain BMW classic car enthusiast, who can buy a BMW American Import not only cheaper, but is likely to be in better condition and more original than a rain soaked European model.
There are certain American Import auctions online, that will allow you to bid with eth American trade guys, so you do not always need to go through a dealer or broker. This does mean you need to know your onions so, plenty of research and patience is a basic requirement, but it could pay dividends for those who take the time to do so.
