Parking Proximity Sensors

Filed under: luxury — lloyd @ 9:41 am

Parking Proximity Sensors are a relatively recent addition to vehicles and still only really come as an additional extra.

They have been designed to alert drivers to unseen obstacles when they are parking and also how close they are to an object such as a wall.

The sensors work by using an ultrasonic proximity sensor similar to the ones used in radars, and work by sending a low level sound wave which is then rebounded back when it hits an object. The sensors computer then measures the time taken for the pulse to return, conferring the information to the driver usually by a series of  ‘beeps’ which change pitch in accordance to the distance.

Some systems use a visual detection system where a camera will give the driver a view from behind them and a signal bar on the screen will indicate distance. these are also usually used in conjunction with the audio system.

The video below gives a good technical evaluation of how the sensors work and where they are positioned within the vehicle.

Parking sensors can sometimes require replacing or refitting as they can become redundant if knocked out of position, unless covered by a warranty this can be expensive as it involves an electrical refit. Spare parts taken from breakers maybe an option if you want to save money .

BMW have announced they are recalling 8,080 of its 5 Series Gran Turismo models due to a petrol tank sensor issue.

The car which began selling at the back end of 2009 and in Spring 2010 has a fault which causes the car to think there is petrol in the tank when there is none, possibly resulting in breakdowns or drivers damaging their vehicles.

BMW blamed the bug on moving sensors getting stuck against the tank wall preventing them from giving an accurate reading.

The German manufacturer has said it knows of no accidents or injuries that have occurred due to the problem and that the recall is voluntary.

A BMW representative also added that that company found the flaw themselves thanks to their “vigorous pre and post testing” and that they reported the problem to the correct safety authorities themselves.

Need replacement fuel tanks/sensors for your car? Take a look on CarSpareFinder who will search nationwide dealers and breakers to find the best price for you, all without you having to leave your computer screen.

Or if you would like to lease a BMW 5 Series take a look at Leasebam who will search all local dealers to find you the best leasing agreement.

Swapalease is keen to let you know that in the USA you get out of that BMW car lease deal and if you are in the market for the same, you can get a good deal by taking over someone elses car lease contract. The video remininding us, is not that well prouced, in fact it is nothing more than a powerpoint presentation, but it reminds us that BMW car lease is probably one of the most popular contracts to take out because of the better residual values these German made vehicles hold.

BMW Cars Grabbed Two of the Prestigious Green Car Awards 2009

Filed under: luxury — sunil @ 5:25 pm

The efficient dynamics technology of BMW cars is popular among customers who want excellent fuel economy along with lower emissions. Car lovers don’t have to compromise their driving experience in an attempt to save fuel.

The Green car awards 2009 has recognized the MINI Cooper S as the Green sports car and BMW 318d as the Green executive car. The MINI Cooper S has won the title for the second consecutive time.

Among the various sports car, the MINI Cooper S has advantages over fuel efficiency. Fewer carbon emissions of the MINI Cooper has made the car win the title. The MINI Cooper is essentially a sports car with exciting looks and great performance. Compared to the rivals, the Cooper is faster and more stylish. It is proven again that it is not possible to find another car that matches the performance and fuel efficiency of the MINI Cooper.

BMW 318d is the least polluting car in the 3 series. The performance figures of the 318d attracted the Green car awards jury. Moreover, this performance was achieved with fewer emissions and at greater fuel efficiency. While many people think that luxury cars don’t care about fuel consumption, the 318d has proved that even those who like luxury cars like to save money on fuel.
This rare blend of impressive performance and environment friendly behavior has resulted in the title given to BMW 318d.

Efficient dynamics technology was started in 2007 by the BMW company. This technology was built on lightweight engineering and direct injection engine. This revolutionized the way BMW cars were made. All the cars built using this technology are fuel efficient with good performance figures. No wonder BMW car Lease is extremely popular.

BMW And Rolls Royce

Filed under: luxury — admin @ 1:15 pm

The German manufacturer has an association with English bred cars when it bought out Rover and it subsidiaries several years ago and the luxury car maker Rolls Royce. At the time the news that BMW was going to buy Rolls Royce did not go down well as Volkswagen appeared to have a better deal on the table , but the fact the BMW already supplied engines for the models, seemed to seal the deal.

This all occurred around 1998 and the ownership of a major car manufacturer renowned for quality engineer has guaranteed the success of Rolls Royce. However the car that was once deemed as the best car in the world and oozes luxury from hand made panels to the seats that several cows have to die to provide the leather is not in fashion anymore with those who believe the car is there only to show off your wealth, something not deemed as appropriate in the current economic climate. We could write a whole novel on every piece of craftsmanship and design that goes in to every vehicle, most of it beyond the imagination of the normal driver and aimed only at those who want the best, irrelevant of the cost.

Because of this most cars find themselves going abroad to oil rich countries and the USA. In terms of practicality though, these vehicles do not score highly. Try to find a parking space in London and you will be struggling, although some would say, if you can afford a Rolls Royce it is very likely you have your own property to park it. BMW always made quality cars, but at a practical level, owning Rolls Royce has meant they can apply quality engineering to both sectors.
